Hospice in Odessa

 

Hospice provides assistance to terminally ill in the last stage of disease.  On the territory of the CIS countries a care in hospice is mainly provided to oncologic patients with severe pain syndrome in the last stage of disease, confirmed by medical documents.

 The primary object of medical, social and psychological aid in hospice is a sick person and his/her family. Nursing is performed by a specially trained medical and service staff as well as relatives of the patients and volunteers, who have undergone preliminary training in hospices.

Hospice provides outpatient and inpatient care to the sick. Outpatient care is rendered at home by hospice mobile teams (“hospice at home”). Inpatient care, depending on the needs of the patient and his family, is rendered under twenty-four-hours, day or night hospital stay.

The essence of the project

  • To create a social enterprise designed for 25 beds.

The main objective

  • Establishing a hospice and rendering round-the-clock care and observation of oncology patients in the terminal stage.

Specific objectives

  • To reduce the psychological and physical stress on the family.
  • To allow families save jobs.
  • To provide a quality pain relief and to comfort dying palliative patients.
  • To release the social workers attending palliative patients at home.
  • To release the medical staff serving palliative patients at home and in hospitals.
  • To free up space in stationary hospitals.
  • To train medical students` skills and experience for working with palliative patients.

Clients

In the stationary there are only oncology patients in the terminal stage without age limit. Mobile teams serve oncology and vascular patients. Medicines for cardiovascular patients are purchased by relatives individually.

There is no official hospice in Odessa and Odessa region.
